Newspapers and magazines aren’t the most common sources in academic writing. Nevertheless, you may need to cite a magazine or newspaper article when writing about something that has been in the media (or when analysing the media itself). As such, we’re looking at how to cite a newspaper article or magazine in Harvard referencing.
Smith states, “Citing an article in your essay correctly is fundamental if you want to avoid plagiarism” (26). Case 2 Don’t use the author’s last name before the quote. The report states, “There are two ways of in-text citation” (Smith 26).

MLA citations typically include just the author’s surname and any relevant page numbers, so it’s necessary to adapt them when citing more than one work by a single author (not just when they’re published in the same year). To do this, simply use a shortened version of the source title in the citations.
Papers awaiting final review comments are not to be cited. But if it becomes necessary, they can be cited as unpublished works. However, if the manuscript has been accepted for publication, you can.

If the author is named in the text, simply give the year of publication afterwards, followed by page numbers after the quoted text: According to Chatterton (2002), many academic conferences are “oversubscribed” (p. 16). If you’re citing the entire proceedings of a conference, give the editor’s name in place of an author.
The guidelines for citing an essay in MLA format are similar to those for citing a chapter in a book. Include the author of the essay, the title of the essay, the name of the collection if the essay belongs to one, the editor of the collection or other contributors, the publication information, and the page number (s).
Works cited entries for periodical sources include three main elements—the author of the article, the title of the article, and information about the magazine, newspaper, or journal.
Cite papers that describe software as a complement to, not a replacement for, citing the software itself. In the first draft of a paper, always put software citations in references or bibliographies. Be prepared to debate with reviewers why you have cited the software: you want to acknowledge the contribution of the software's authors and the value of software as a legitimate research output.
You can cite any paper that you want: a published paper, a pre-print, a submitted paper, or a paper that has been accepted but not yet published. Some journals may not encourage citation of pre-prints, but there is no such issue with papers that have been accepted for publication.
